Airstream destroyed by fire in Steamboat Springs
An Airstream trailer was destroyed after it caught fire on Pine Street in the early morning hours on Friday, according to Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue Chief Chuck Cerasoli.
The initial call came in just before 3:30 a.m. Friday, paging Steamboat firefighters to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Cerasoli.
Firefighters battled the fire for about an hour and left the scene shortly after it was completely out around 4:30 a.m.
Cerasoli added that no one was hurt in the fire, but the Airstream was completely destroyed. A van connected to the Airstream was also damaged. The surrounding property, including surrounding homes, was not damaged in the blaze.
Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue reminds the community that prolonged hot, dry weather creates a large risk of fire.
Officials ask residents to adhere to the active Stage 2 fire restrictions, which do not allow the use of fire pits at private residences or charcoal grills, even with a valid permit.
Stage 2 fire restrictions prohibit all open fires and campfires, except for petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns or heating devices underwriter UL-approved. The use of explosives and fireworks, as well as welding and cutting-torch devices, is also prohibited.
Residents and visitors who see someone violating the Stage 2 fire restrictions should call the non-emergency Routt County dispatch line at 970-879-1110 to report the violation.
“It really does take a community effort to make a difference,” said Cersoli. “Restrictions are in place, and we all need to play our part in order to keep the community safe from fire. We’re asking everybody to follow the restrictions.”
