Emma Pilger is the courts and crime reporter for the Steamboat Pilot & Today. Hailing from Woodland Park, Pilger graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in March 2024 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Writing. During her time at SCAD, Pilger was the chief copy editor at the student-led lifestyle publication, District, and pursued a career in food writing and creative nonfiction. After working closely with well-known food bloggers and publications throughout her college career, Pilger chose to pivot her focus and pursue her long-time love — crime reporting — instead.

Pilger is a born and raised Coloradan and has always considered Steamboat Springs home. She moved to the Yampa Valley in October 2024 to reconnect with the community and Rocky Mountains. While not writing, Pilger loves to spend time outdoors by skiing or hiking, and enjoys reading, music and cooking.
