A previous offender with more than 60 prior arrests and a woman were taken into custody Friday after investigators seized nearly 340 grams of methamphetamine, 14 weapons and nearly $5,000 in cash from their Craig home, according to the arrest affidavits.

Dustin Hyatt, 48, and Tanya Vallejos, 46, of Craig, were arrested Sept. 19. Hyatt is charged with unlawful distribution of meth, a Class 1 drug felony, as well as 14 counts of possession of weapons by a previous offender, three counts of possession of an illegal weapon and one special offender charge, which could increase the severity of penalties.

Vallejos is charged with unlawful distribution of meth, possession of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of an illegal weapon and one special offender charge.

On Sept. 19, law enforcement officers with the All Crimes Enforcement Team searched Hyatt’s and Vallejo’s residence on West 6th Street in Craig.

The All Crimes Enforcement Team, consisting of officers from the Routt and Moffat county sheriff’s offices and the Steamboat, Craig and Hayden police departments, aims to “target the illegal possession and distribution of controlled substances and other crimes associated with these activities,” according to the All Crimes Enforcement Team agreement and memorandum of understanding.

When law enforcement searched the residence, Vallejos allegedly told police, “I want my guns back, I’m able to have guns,” according to the affidavit.

After the search, officers found a total of 14 weapons, including four firearms, three metallic knuckles, five compound bows, one “homemade double-ended knife” longer than 3.5 inches and one collapsible baton, the document states.

Of the firearms, police found a .303-caliber rifle, a .38 Special revolver, a semiautomatic .380 handgun and a .22-caliber revolver.

Law enforcement also found a “plastic bowl” with a “white crystalline substance” in it that later tested positive for 120.3 grams of meth, as well as a digital scale and empty jeweler’s bags, according to the affidavit.

In a clothes hamper labeled “Tanya’s Undergarments,” officers found three bags of the same white crystalline substance, which later tested positive for 187.34 grams of meth, and two vials of the white substance, totaling 31.71 grams of meth, the affidavit continues.

The affidavit also states that a plastic container found inside Vallejos’ pocket tested positive for meth and weighed 0.83 grams. Law enforcement also found $4,900 in cash in the residence.

While on the scene, officers called 14th Judicial District Attorney Matt Karzen and “briefed him on the case,” the document states.

Karzen told law enforcement that Hyatt was convicted of felony menacing in a 2019 Routt County case, barring him from possessing any weapons.

As of March — when he was arrested for allegedly taking photos of women in a Steamboat Springs restaurant bathroom — Hyatt had been arrested 59 times in Colorado since 1998, according to criminal history records provided by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

As of Sept. 19, Hyatt has now been arrested a total of 61 times in Colorado, according to the affidavit.

“Some of his felony arrests were for (second-degree) burglary, dangerous drugs, assault/menacing, robbery, illegal use of credit cards, smuggling contraband into prison,” the document states.

“The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, ACET, and its partner agencies remain committed to enforcing Colorado’s drug laws and encourage residents to report suspected drug activity to their local law enforcement authorities,” a Wednesday news release from the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office states. “The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office continues relentless pursuit of criminal activity in our community.”

Vallejos was released from the Moffat County Jail on Monday after posting a $10,000 bond, according to the Moffat County Combined Courts clerk’s office.

Hyatt remained in the Moffat County Jail under a $100,000 bond as of Thursday.
