Officials at the member-owned nonprofit Yampa Valley Electric Association announced Friday that the co-op did not receive any contender petitions for the three board districts up for the re-election this year.

Per YVEA bylaws, the 2024 board election process is canceled, and the three current board members up for re-election will retain their seats for another three-year term.

The three directors that were up for re-election include Scott McGill in District 8 representing south of Steamboat Springs, Ken Rogers in District 9 in Oak Creek and further south in Routt County, and Glynda Sheehan in District 1 that covers a horizontal band across northern Routt and Moffat counties, as well as Savery and Baggs in Wyoming.

The 2024 YVEA Annual Meeting, open to all members/customers, is scheduled for June 25 at the YVEA office at 3715 U.S. Highway 40 just east of Craig. More information is available online at YVEA.com/about-us/annual-meeting.

YVEA issued a rate increase as of April 1, and the co-op is currently searching for a new CEO to replace Steve Johnson.

“This rate increase is necessary due to power supply costs, maintaining and investing in our system, and the rising cost of doing business,” according to a YVEA notice mailed as part of current customer invoices.

The electric cooperative serves nearly 28,500 meters and 23,000 customers, with 2,840 miles of electrical line covering a 7,000 square-mile service territory in northwest Colorado and southern Wyoming.
