Steamboat Stampede 19U girls’ hockey team players are getting ready for the third annual Stick it to Cancer game and awareness event at 2 p.m. Saturday at Howelsen Ice Arena in Steamboat Springs.
Sporting pink jerseys, the team will scrimmage the 19U Mountain Select girls’ team in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Earlier this week, the players toured UCHealth Gloria Gossard Breast Care Center and Jan Bishop Cancer Center.
Admission to the game is free Saturday, and pink attire is encouraged for all attendees because prizes will be awarded to the best dressed male and female. In addition,100 breast cancer awareness T-shirts will be distributed at the game.
Activities will include a skate parade by the girls’ 10U and 12U players before the puck drop. During intermissions between second and third periods, organizers will host a shoot the puck through the pink ribbon competition.
Game attendees can purchase pucks for a Chuck a Puck contest to see which participant’s puck comes closest to center ice to win a prize. Proceeds from all pucks purchased will support a fund that helps patients in need with breast cancer costs.
