The Steamboat Springs Police Department hosted a swearing-in and awards ceremony Wednesday evening, recognizing two new police officers, promotions and the accomplishments of current officers.

Police Chief Mark Beckett invited family, friends and peers to pin badges on the officers and celebrate the expansion and achievements of the department.

“Having your badge pinned, especially the very first one, is a significant accomplishment and something to be shared across the department and community,” said Beckett in a statement. “We’re often the first on the scene and the quick action by these officers saves lives and emphasizes their dedication to protect and serve our community and should be celebrated.”

The ceremony started with the pinning of badges on the two new police officers, Amy Mink and Jordan Alpers, and continued by recognizing recent promotions.

Michael Buccino and Dunte Valrey received their detective badges with the special assignment unit, and Jessica Pierce received her detective badge with the investigations division.

Lidia Frescas, Lonny Shaw and Greg Griffin were also spotlighted during the ceremony — all receiving the life-saving award for their outstanding efforts and accomplishments in saving a life.

The recipients of this award are chosen by peers in the department, a fact that Beckett was proud to share.

Detective Christian Barnett was also recognized for his efforts as a lead investigator and for revamping the firearms program, as well as for being a trusted mentor to many officers in the department.

“This team that we’re building is incredible,” said Beckett during the ceremony.

Last week, the Steamboat Springs Police Department also presented leadership awards to four staff members within the department and to two Steamboat citizens.

Beckett and Cmdr. Rich Brown presented Sgt. Braxton Shirley and Sgt. Greg Griffin with the Leader of the Year award. They also presented Lane Lee with the Officer of the Year award and Community Service Officer Adrian Najera with the Professional Staff of the Year award. Mindy Marriott and Shelby DeWolfe were presented the Citizen of the Year award.
