Steamboat Springs police arrest daycare teacher for alleged child abuse
Steamboat Springs police arrested a daycare teacher at Young Tracks Preschool and Day Care Center for alleged child abuse Friday, according to a news release.
Alma Amparan Montes, 26, is charged with one count of child abuse.
According to a news release, Steamboat police opened a criminal investigation Thursday after being notified by the Routt County Department of Human Services about Montes allegedly physically harming children at the daycare.
After conducting “numerous” interviews, police determined there was probable cause to arrest Montes, stated the news release.

“We are heartbroken for the children and families involved and will continue to fight tirelessly for the safety of those most vulnerable in our community,” said Police Chief Mark Beckett in a statement.
The news release added that Montes has been a daycare teacher at Young Tracks Preschool and Day Care Center for about five years.
The news release also states that police believe the alleged abuse under investigation is “physical and not sexual.”
Anyone who believes their child may have been a victim or has information regarding this case is urged to call police Det. Sam Silva or Det. Jessica Pierce at 970-879-1144.
