Steamboat man killed in crash on Routt County Road 14

A man was killed in an accident on Routt County Road 14 near mile marker 16, which happened just before 9 a.m. Sunday, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Hunter Matthews.

Nathan Stephen Whatcott, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene around 11 a.m., said the Routt County Coroner’s Office.

Whatcott’s vehicle rolled off the roadway, Matthews said. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.



The roadway was shut down until just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Matthews. Whatcott had recently moved to Steamboat Springs from Durango, according to the coroner’s office.
