The Steamboat Art Museum’s annual Plein Air Event and Exhibition is underway, bringing 50 artists from around the country to Steamboat to paint the colors of the Yampa Valley “en plein air,” or in open air.
The museum is hosting fundraising events throughout the week, supporting SAM’s mission to foster a love for the arts in the Steamboat Springs community.
From 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the museum is inviting the community to a night of food, drinks and music at Mythology Distillery with the Plein Air artists. The ticketed event will also offer an opportunity to be the first to purchase an original painting created this week.
The following day, SAM Plein Air judge Brienne Brown will host a free talk, “Plain Air Perspectives,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the musuem.
On Friday, SAM will host the opening reception, sale and awards ceremony for this year’s Plein Air artists. Attendees will see 250 new paintings of the Yampa Valley, all of which will be available for purchase. The reception will begin at 5 p.m., and awards will be presented at 6 p.m.
The exhibition will be on display at the museum until Nov. 1.
