Nonprofit Partners for Youth is looking for Community-Based Mentors to volunteer as a trusted adult to make a difference in a local youth’s life.

Partners currently has 18 youth on the waitlist who are eager for a mentor, with a need especially for male mentors in Steamboat Springs.

Organizers say the adult mentors do not have to be a “perfect” role model, just to be available to help and support youth. According to Partners, “having a trusted adult in the life of a child is the number one preventative factor for future high-risk behavior.”

The Community-Based Mentoring Program follows a one-to-one model where mentors are matched with youth and are asked to spend time together weekly in the community.

Potential mentors can apply online at Partnersyouth.org/volunteer-1. For questions, email info@partnersyouth.org. The nonprofit established in 1996 provides community, school and peer-based mentoring programs as well as Youth Action Councils in Routt and Moffat counties.
