Suzie Romig/Steamboat Pilot & Today
The next round of Self Defense Program for Women classes at Old Town Hot Springs is open to the public and will run 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Mondays from Sept. 29-Oct. 27.
The cost for the hands-on, six-week course is $80 for OTHS members and $95 for nonmembers.
The class is open to women 14 and older, or 12 and older with a parent participating.
The class is taught by Lindsay Heideman, a blue belt and student of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which is a self-defense martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting and submission holds. The class helps women learn how to use leverage and momentum to their advantage to protect themselves and get away from a threatening situation.
Registration is available through Old Town Hot Springs in downtown Steamboat Springs.
