Oak Creek continues search for new police chief
In its ongoing search for a new police chief, Oak Creek is now offering a salary range of $100,000 to $134,392 and benefits for the position, according to the agenda packet from the town’s Thursday board meeting.
“The town of Oak Creek is seeking an experienced, hands-on law enforcement leader who thrives in a small-town setting,” the document states. “This is a ‘Working Chief’ position, where the chief is expected to perform regular patrol duties, lead by example and support all aspects of public safety.”
The police chief will report directly to Oak Creek Town Administrator Louis Fineberg, and will be responsible for all police operations, including patrol, investigations and records.
The position also requires managing the budget, as well as staffing and equipment needs.
Hiring requirements include 10 or more years of experience in law enforcement, five years of experience in a supervisory or command role and a Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training certification.
Preferred qualifications include advanced leadership training and “familiarity with small-town policing and rural community needs,” states the document.
The official hiring advertisement will be posted Friday, said Fineberg in a Monday email.
The town has been searching for a new police chief since the resignation of former Chief Ralph Maher in the wake of an investigation into his alleged conduct at an all-male entertainment show held at an Oak Creek bar in early 2024.
The deadline for applications is Sept. 26. To apply, send a cover letter, resume and six professional references to TownAdmin@TownofOakCreek.com. Call Fineberg at 970-736-2422 extension 202 with questions.
