Craig stabbing case continued to next month
The case against a man accused of stabbing a woman in Craig on July 21 was continued to next month during a Moffat County Combined Courts appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
Craig Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Yampa Avenue at 7:19 p.m. after receiving a report of a disturbance. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a female victim who had suffered multiple stab wounds, according to Craig Police Chief Mike Cochran.
According to the affidavit, a witness stated that she saw a man “bent over” the victim and allegedly “jabbing at her with a knife in the lower abdomen in the back.”
During an interview with law enforcement, Trapp said that he was “hearing noises telling him to do something bad,” states the affidavit.
Trapp added that he stabbed the woman’s neck because “if he killed someone, he would stay in prison,” the affidavit adds.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Trapp remained in the Moffat County Jail under a $500,000 bond. A protection order for the victim will be issued if the bond is met.
During the Wednesday court appearance, Trapp’s attorneys, Public Defenders Abby Kurtz-Phelan and Shannel Daniels, requested that the case be continued to August.
Kurts-Phelan and Daniels also reserved the right to a preliminary hearing, which is a court proceeding to determine whether there is enough probable cause to try the defendant.
Trapp’s next court date is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 20.
