Wildland fire north of U.S. 40 in Moffat County 10-percent contained as of Friday
'Horse Draw Fire' continues to grow
A wildland fire in Moffat County, the Horse Draw Fire, is covering 748 acres of U.S. Bureau of Land Management property and was 10% contained as of Friday afternoon, according to a news release from the county sheriff’s office.
Crews, including the Mesa County Sheriff’s Wildland Fire Team, BLM wildland fire crews, U.S. Forrest Service wildland fire, and the Big Bear Hot Shots from California, continued suppression attempts throughout the day, according to the news release. The release added that U.S. Highway 40 remained open on Friday.
The Moffat County emergency services were notified Thursday of a wildland fire in the area north of mile post 25 on U.S. Highway 40.
Artesia Fire is on scene, beginning suppression efforts with wildland firefighters en route to assist from the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Land Management.
Officials ask that the public avoid the area and allow emergency personnel to battle the fire without interruption.
An update posted at 5:35 p.m. Thursday stated the wildland fire has been named the Horse Draw Fire, which the update stated was continuing to grow rapidly due to unfavorable fire conditions.
