Snow expected to fall in Steamboat Springs on Monday will give way to another round of warm spring weather beginning Tuesday, with temperatures warming to almost 60 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the week.

According to the Sunday afternoon SnowAlarm.com forecast from local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth, snow expected to begin late Sunday or early Monday could bring 2-5 inches by the time the Steamboat Ski Resort publishes its mid-mountain ski report Monday.

“We should see a break in the precipitation to start Monday before brief and sometimes moderate to heavy showers reemerge by Monday afternoon and evening, leaving 1-4″ of snow on the hill,” Weissbluth wrote.

After that, residents should expect mostly sunny skies from Tuesday to Thursday, with temperatures building from the upper 40s to the upper 50s by the end of the week, he added.

Looking to the weekend, Weissbluth said another strong storm currently over the Aleutian Islands in Alaska is expected to begin affecting the Pacific by midweek and stretch southward along the West Coast by Thursday.

The pattern will see increasing southwest wings to the Steamboat area later in the week ahead of a storm with windy conditions that will start to impact the area by Friday.

“So, enjoy the upcoming gorgeous spring weather and be sure to check back to my next regularly scheduled weather narrative on Thursday afternoon where it looks like I will be discussing our next round of wintry weather for the coming weekend,” Weissbluth said.

Beyond the local weather outlook, the local meteorologist also noted a milestone for the north-central Colorado region came on Saturday when water levels stored in the White-Yampa-Little Snake basin snowpack surpassed the area’s 30-year median peak of 21.4 inches.

“Note that we have reached this level a week ahead of the median peak of April 7, and we are certainly not done adding water to the snowpack,” Weissbluth said.

Steamboat Ski Resort has received 364 inches of snow at its mid-mountain base as of Sunday, according to the resort’s mountain report.

This year’s snow total is above the resort’s 11-year annual average of 291 inches, but well below the 428 inches that fell during the 2022-23 season.

Closing day at Steamboat is scheduled for April 21.
