To show support for families and friends dealing with dementia, especially the most common type of Alzheimer’s disease, the community is invited to the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s scheduled for Sept. 13 at West Lincoln Park in Steamboat Springs.
The Saturday morning event will begin with registration, refreshments and activities at 9 a.m. followed by a 1.4-mile group walk at 10 a.m. More information and registration are online at Act.alz.org/Steamboat.
Individuals, fundraising teams, community supporters and dogs are welcome to participate in the walk for awareness, education, fundraising and remembrances.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, the disease can begin some 20 years before the development of memory loss and other symptoms, and more than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. Statistics show the degenerative brain disease with no cure kills more people than breast and prostate cancers combined.
