Hundreds of volunteers are needed to help with the annual countywide, volunteer Routt County Clean Up Day set for 8 a.m.-noon May 17.

This is a morning when some 200 volunteers from groups, families or individuals are needed to grab a pair of gloves, sturdy shoes and a water bottle and join fellow citizens to help clean up the multitude of trash that shows up after the snow melts. This also is a time when many established Adopt-A-Highway groups work to clean their adopted road sections.

Volunteers for the May 17 cleanup can sign up online at Volunteersignup.org/FMHF8. Volunteers are asked to stop by the Community Room at the Routt County Human Services building at Sixth and Oak streets to pick up trash bags and assignments.

For questions, contact event co-sponsor Main Street Steamboat Springs at 970-367-7060 or mainstreetsteamboat.com. Children 11 and younger should be accompanied by an adult volunteer.

In addition to beautifying the community, some important reasons for the volunteer day include keeping trash out of waterways and away from wildlife.

If volunteers are not available on May 17, organizers encourage residents to start now and pick up trash in their neighborhoods.
