The Yampa Valley Regional Airport is reminding travelers that the Transportation Security Administration will begin enforcing REAL ID requirements next month.

Starting May 7, TSA agents will begin enforcing REAL ID requirements at checkpoints nationwide per the federal agency’s national directive, which requires passengers 18-and-older to present a REAL ID-compliant form of identification or another acceptable form of ID.

Other acceptable forms of ID include a valid passport, a U.S. passport card or a permanent resident card. A complete list of acceptable IDs, aside from a REAL ID, can be found at: TSA.gov/travel/security-screening/identification.

Starting May 7, travelers who arrive at the airport with a non-compliant ID and no alternative form of acceptable identification will be subject to additional screening, delays, or may even be denied entry to the security checkpoint.

REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and state-issued IDs are marked by a star at the top of the card. Individuals who are unsure if their ID is compliant can check with their state’s motor vehicle department or visit TSA.gov/real-id for further information.

“We encourage all of our passengers to check their identification and ensure it meets REAL ID standards before they travel,” said Kevin Booth, Yampa Valley Regional Airport director, in a statement. “Avoid the stress of travel delays by verifying your ID in advance and arriving early.”
