Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue open house returns

You know the sights and sounds of Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue when they are headed to an emergency call, but have you had the chance to meet the individuals who provide Fire/EMS services daily to the community? Your chance to find out is at the SSFR open house on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mountain Fire Station.
Like previous events, there will be a free community BBQ, junior firefighter obstacle course challenge, safety education (fire extinguisher training), kids’ activities such as the fire hose spray, car seat checks and interactive displays. The Classic Air Medical helicopter will make a special appearance, landing on the adjacent sports field.
Most of the department’s fire apparatus, ambulances and equipment will be on display — including the juggernaut in aerial suppression supremacy, Tower-61, capable of lifting firefighters 100 feet in the air.
Guests can check out each vehicle as well as sign up to climb to the top of the four-section extension ladder of Ladder-62, which typically towers above the open house.
