Steamboat Springs City Council petitions available Aug. 5
The City of Steamboat Springs will release the nominating petition for candidates pursuing a run for Steamboat Springs City Council on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Applicants will need to fill out a candidate affidavit and a nomination petition signed by a minimum of 25 registered electors within their district or from across the entire city for the at-large petition.
Candidates seeking nomination will need to turn in paperwork to city hall at 115 10th Street by 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25.
Four city council seats are up for vote during the Nov. 4 election.
The positions include:
- District I (Precincts 11,12 & 13) ………Expires November 2029
- District II (Precincts 14, 15 & 16) …….Expires November 2029
- District III (Precincts 17, 18 & 19) ……Expires November 2029
- At-Large (All Precincts) ………………….Expires November 2027
To be eligible to run, candidates must be 18 years of age or older on the day of the election and must reside in the municipality for a minimum of 12 consecutive months preceding the date of the election.
The at-large candidate can reside anywhere within the city limits while the other positions require a residency in that specific district.
A candidate information forum and drawing by lot will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 4 in Citizens’ Meeting Room in Centennial Hall.
Newly elected members will take over the role at the first City Council meeting following the election. It is currently scheduled for Nov. 18. A new City Council President and President Pro-Tem will be elected by the council at that meeting.
