Steamboat Springs Chamber: Holding the door open for future generations of leaders
Routt County has always been home, so after college I knew I wanted to return to grow my career here. I was fortunate to have leaders who supported my goals, and now today, as CEO of the Steamboat Springs Chamber, I see that same spark in our emerging leaders. I believe supporting them is one of the smartest economic strategies we can pursue.
Our economy is rooted in small business, agriculture, tourism, and outdoor recreation, and depends on people who see the possibilities to thrive right here in Routt County. While housing and infrastructure often grab headlines, leadership is the connective tissue that holds our community and economy together.
That’s why the Chamber takes an active role in building Routt County’s leadership pipeline through programs like Leadership Steamboat, the Young Professionals Network, and by bringing emerging voices into our own governance through the Board of Directors and committee representation. This work is key to achieving our vision of economic vitality in Routt County.
For over 30 years, Leadership Steamboat has developed a growing network of professionals committed to shaping the future of Routt County. Graduates of the program now lead businesses, serve as elected officials, run nonprofits, and sit on boards that influence the economic health of our region.
Their legacy lives on through class projects like Yampa Valley Gives, Keep Bears Wild, and the Steamboat Bike Guide, to name a few. We are especially proud of Angelica Salinas, former Chamber employee, current County Commissioner, and 2025 Navigator Awards honoree, for Young Professional of the Year.
Angelica is passionate, smart, and innovative, and embodies the spirit of our future leaders.
We recognize that attracting and retaining workforce in a rural resort community like ours comes with real challenges. That’s why our Young Professionals Network (YPN) exists – to help local professionals grow their networks, give back through philanthropy, and connect to the broader community.
When people feel connected to each other, to opportunity, and to the larger purpose of this valley, they’re more likely to stay and grow their careers right here in Routt County.
We’re also committed to giving young leaders real seats at the table. Our Board of Directors and Destination Development Committee include emerging voices like Madison Keefe from Mountain Valley Bank and Sam Nelson from Bar-U-Eat, who bring fresh ideas and challenge us to think differently about business, policy, and the future of Routt County.
It’s clear the future generation of entrepreneurs, managers, and civic leaders are already here. The question is: are we supporting them?
If you’re an aspiring leader, there’s a place for you here. Consider applying to Leadership Steamboat, joining the Young Professionals Network, or joining a board that supports a cause you’re passionate about.
If you’re a business leader, support your employees’ professional development. When we open doors for future generation leaders, we open doors for stronger businesses, a more resilient workforce, and a thriving Routt County.
