— Steamboat’s High Altitude Basketball Club took four teams to the Mid-American Youth Basketball Denver tournament, each playing several top club teams from across the region.

The High Altitude varsity team, playing two games with five players and the other three games with six players, went 2-2 in pool play and earned a berth into the semifinals.

The team lost to a squad from South Dakota by 12 in the semifinals, but players Brody King and Jordan Frye each had standout tournaments.

The junior varsity team made it to the consolation championship game, eventually losing to the Colorado Thunder 16s. Rising Steamboat freshmen Robi Powers and Jon Rinck each had solid tournaments. Powers hit eight 3-pointers and had 30 points against the Denver Gators while Rinck had a pair of double-doubles.

The eighth-grade team won the consolation championship game, 33-32, when Charlie Harrington hit a layup with 19 seconds left.

The seventh-grade team finished 1-4 on the weekend. In its lone win, the team overcame a 12-point deficit to beat the Colorado Thunderbirds.

The club season is wrapping up with June tournaments in Colorado Springs and the Gold Crown tournament in Denver.

The team has a youth summer camp from June 24 to 27. Anyone interested should email Devin Borvansky at steamboatbasketball@hotmail.com.
