Steamboat Soccer participates in statewide sports fundraiser
The Steamboat Soccer Club, now in its 40th year, will participate in the Colorado Youth Sports Giving Day. The event, in its second year, will run for two weeks Sept. 3-17.
The Colorado Youth Sports Giving Day is a collaboration between Project Play Colorado, the Daniels Fund and many other nonprofit organizations. The event was created to raise awareness and funds for youth sports programs statewide.
Last year, $3.7 million was raised for 175 nonprofits — this year, the campaign hopes to match a fund of over $1.5 million. This year’s event will officially start at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 with the opening pitch of the Colorado Rockies home game.
The Steamboat Soccer Club offers competitive programming for youth across Routt County and does not turn any players away. Last year, the $25,000 they were awarded from the Giving Day enabled them to offer free winter clinics at every Routt County elementary school and expand to Boys and Girls Clubs in Craig and Steamboat.
The funding also assists with the young referee mentoring program and equipment access. The club’s goal following this year’s Giving Day is to expand into elementary schools in Hayden and Craig, as well as Soroco.
