The Steamboat Springs Police Department’s K-9 has received a bullet and stab protective vest as a donation from nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, according to a news release.

K-9 Amon’s vest was sponsored by Don and Misty Fike of Galesburg, Illinois, and embroidered with the sentiment “Born to Love — Trained to Serve — Loyal Always.”

The potentially life-saving armor is custom-fitted and National Institute of Justice-certified.

Vested Interest in K9s is a charity with a mission to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the country. The organization has provided over 6,225 vests valued at $6.9 million to K-9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.
