As a high school student in Steamboat Springs, Cody Kurowski spent his winters sliding down the slopes of Howelsen Hill and Mount Werner as a competitive snowboarder, and he spent his summers as a student working in the construction industry.

“Growing up through middle school and high school, I was carpenter for the summers,” said Kurowski, who was a member of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. “We have a family cottage up in Canada, so I would go up there and build cabins and small houses — I always had a passion for it.”

His love for the mountain town led him back home in 2017, and his passion for construction led him to Alpine Mountain Builders where he recently became a partner and has been named president of the company.

“I think there was a lot of concern from our clients that Alpine Master Builders was going to live with the development and die after that, and it was just really a service and a tool to build out that development,” Kurowski said. “Now with me at the helm, I’m a longtime local and will continue to be a longtime local. I’m am going to take this thing not just to Alpine Mountain Ranch, but outside of the development and offer general contracting services throughout the valley.”

Kurowski moved to Steamboat Springs with his family when he was in sixth grade, and he graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 2006 before heading to the Colorado School of Mines where he got a civil engineering degree in 2010. He spent a decade as senior mine engineer and general foreman leading operations in underground mines worldwide.

A few years back, Kurowski made the decision along with is wife, Anne, to build their home here and raise a family in Steamboat Springs. The two are parents to Kit, who is closing in on her second birthday.

“I was still working as an engineer in the mining industry and simultaneously building a house here,” Kurowski said. “Then I got the house done and didn’t want to be on the road anymore. My wife and I have one child who is almost 2 and then another due in November.”

Kurowski found his path to stay in Steamboat Springs after doing a couple of projects for a developer at Alpine Mountain Ranch a few years back.

“Then Bill Butler (owner CEO of Corporex Companies) wanted to start his own construction company,” Kurowski said. “I jumped on board with that, and we developed this company. I transitioned into ownership in the last month and a half, and now we are partners.”

Kurowski said Alpine Master Builders has an extremely talented and highly educated eight-member staff and a four-person board. He said the company is committed to the Routt County community and also has the backing and experience of Corporex, a developer with a 60-year history. “We have the tools, we have the successful proven business model and most importantly we have the people,” Kurowski said. “The future of Alpine Master Builders is strong, and we are committed to being the premier builder in the Yampa Valley.”

Since Alpine Master Builders’ inception in 2020, the company has completed nine luxury homes ranging from 4,000-8,000 square feet. Currently, six new custom luxury residences are under construction at Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club that are expected to be completed by 2024 or early 2025.

“It was a lifelong goal to move back to Steamboat Springs,” Kurowski said. “Being raised in this community was special to me, and it was a place where I wanted to raise my kids and it was a great feeling to be back and get to enjoy the things that I grew up enjoying and to get back to being a part of this community.”
