Steamboat Girls Lacrosse, in partnership with the Maybelline Women’s Lacrosse League, is hosting a clinic and the Sixes Showdown tournament this weekend at Howelsen Hill.
Event organizers will be introducing Lacrosse Sixes, a fast-paced, modified version of field lacrosse created by World Lacrosse in 2021 for Olympic inclusion, to the Steamboat Springs community.
The weekend will begin with a clinic at 2:30 p.m. Friday for players in first through fifth grades, followed by a second clinic at 4:30 p.m. for players in grades 6-10, and a final clinic at 7 p.m. for players from communities outside of Steamboat Springs.
The event will continue from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday as organizers host the first-ever Sixes Showdown tournament, also at Howelsen Hill.
“The Women’s Lacrosse League is sending pros for the weekend to run the clinic, sign autographs, and raise awareness for lacrosse, which will also be in the Olympics in ’28,” said Pete Dopkin, executive director of Steamboat Girls Lacrosse. “The format is Sixes, which is why we wanted to bring this style to Steamboat.”
