A shelter-in-place order was issued for the immediate area of the 2300 Block of Abbey Court in Steamboat Springs due to a suspect allegedly barricaded in a home in the area, according to a Routt County alert sent just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The order was lifted just before 7:30 p.m.
Steamboat Springs Police Chief Mark Beckett said the barricade incident began with an assault “on the other side of town” by a “Hispanic male” who assaulted “a former girlfriend,” causing “significant injuries.”
“We are working on whether or not it is a felony offense at this point,” said Beckett in an interview around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. “There is a second victim of stalking, we believe, that we are still working on interviewing.”
“At a minimum, we have a bunch of misdemeanor assault charges,” he added.

A social media post just before 5:30 p.m. from the Steamboat Springs Police Department said the department and the Northwest Colorado SWAT team “are currently handling a barricaded domestic violence subject in the area of Abbey Court in West End Village.”
The SWAT team searched and cleared the home in question just before 7 p.m.
