Seminars at Steamboat to feature expert on rising domestic terrorism threat
Seminars at Steamboat will host a nonpartisan discussion on the rising threat of domestic terrorism on Monday, exploring the sharp increase in attacks ranging from school shootings to threats targeting the judiciary.
Scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Strings Pavilion, the second seminar of the summer will feature a presentation by esteemed terrorism expert Bruce Hoffman, professor at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and senior fellow at both the Council on Foreign Relations and West Point.
Hoffman, co-author of “God, Guns, and Sedition: Far-Right Terrorism in America,” will discuss the historic roots of domestic terrorism, as well as the influence of organized groups versus lone actors. The presentation will address drivers behind recent trends, including deepening distrust in government, political and economic turmoil, cultural divisions and gun access.
The discussion will also examine the impact of social media, political leaders and the press in spreading extreme messaging tied to far-right violence.
All seminars in thew series are free and open to the public. They are also available on YouTube and KUNC radio for those unable to attend in person.
