Sarah Jones, director of social responsibility at Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. — and Ski Corp.’s representative on the Regional Transportation Authority formation committee — is resigning from her role at the resort effective Oct. 10, according to Ski Corp. Communications Director Maren Franciosi.

In an email, Jones, who is leaving Ski Corp. after six years in the position, declined to do an interview with the newspaper to explain her reasons for stepping down, stating that “it was a personal decision.”

Jones’ decision comes after tense negotiations and shifting funding commitments over both the proposed RTA formation and a proposed lift-ticket tax. She represented the resort in a highly scrutinized process over the terms, timelines and financial obligations tied to Ski Corp.’s multimillion-dollar contributions to regional transportation funding, including when Ski Corp. retreated from a long-touted 20-year, $1-million-per-year commitment to the proposed RTA early last month.

Back-and-forth discussion regarding Ski Corp.’s funding commitment for the proposed RTA culminated in a three-year, $1 million-per-year commitment.
