Residents invited to participate in free autumn leaf disposal and chipping event
As autumn approaches, the city of Steamboat Springs, the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council and Twin Apex Waste Solutions are teaming up to host a free, residential-only Fall Leaf Drop-off and Chipping event from 8:30 a.m.-noon Oct. 4 at the Milner Landfill.
Leaves and limbs will be chipped and repurposed for composting and agricultural use, keeping yards tidy, reducing wildfire risk and optimizing waste for local soil.
The chipped materials will be used for composting at the Steamboat Eco Center. Those with larger loads or oversized debris can dispose of those items at Twin Apex for a fee.
“Now is the time to get ready for snow and clean up all those leaves,” said Community Recycling Coordinator Alicia Archibald, in a statement. “What better way than to have them composted.”
Vegetation and debris management is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reduce fire risks surrounding homes. Clearing the first 5 feet around your house helps prevent embers from igniting structures.
