Petitions to run for board of education due Thursday

Community members interested in serving on the Steamboat Springs School District Board of Education have until Thursday to submit petitions for this fall’s election, according to a statement released by the district earlier this month.

Two four-year seats on the board will be determined in the Routt County General Election on Nov. 4, offering residents an opportunity to help shape the future of public education in Steamboat Springs.

Board members act as local policymakers, setting the vision for district schools, guiding priorities and supporting staff in facilitating a strong learning environment.

Candidates must live within the district, be registered voters for at least a year prior to the election, and run on a nonpartisan basis. State law prohibits individuals convicted of sexual offenses against children from serving.

To qualify, prospective candidates must collect a minimum of 50 signatures from registered district voters and submit their completed petitions by the Thursday deadline. Those elected will be sworn in by the end of November.

District officials emphasize that strong board members are collaborative listeners who value teamwork, public education, and service to children and the community.
