Two years after buying Kinetic Energy Physical Therapy, owners Mackenzie and Alek Kowalick have transformed unused space to create an open gym with new cardio and strength equipment and a recovery room featuring a sauna, cold plunge tub and showers.
“The back gym is just kind of like a branch of the physical therapy clinic,” said Mackenzie Kowalick, who runs the business with her husband, Alek. “We are really trying to expand the space and make it a little bit more like global fitness and health, eventually getting in some other aspects of fitness … We are trying to expand a little to do overall holistic health in that space starting with a private gym and a recovery area.”
The Kowalicks, who both hold Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees, recently added the gym in an unused space behind their large physical therapy area at Kinetic Energy Physical Therapy, 1585 Mid Valley Drive, Unit 3.
Membership sales to the gym and recovery room opened this week, offering clients complete access to a gym equipped with a full range of cardio machines, strength training equipment and functional training tools to support all levels of fitness.
Customers purchasing the unlimited pass will have access to the three-person sauna and a cold plunge therapy bath for contrast therapy training. They will also have access to the recovery area, which features pneumatic compression pants and soft tissue mobility equipment for targeted recovery support.
Membership at the new facility will be limited to 25 members.
Kinetic Energy wanted to create a boutique, exclusive training experience outfitted with high-quality strength and cardio equipment, and spa-style recovery amenities.
Mackenzie Kowalick said the gym is a chance to expand past just doing post-injury rehabilitation to create a continuum of care that supports locals well beyond recovery. The new gym reflects the clinic’s belief that proactive, preventative care is just as important as treatment.

She added that the idea was to create a gym for clients looking for a more intimate, private space where they could feel more comfortable while working out without dealing with crowds.
“The number one thing we hear after our client’s complete physical therapy is, ‘I don’t want to go back to the crowded gym,'” she said. “This space is our answer. It’s a place where people can continue to train, recover, and thrive—without distraction.”
The cost of the unlimited pass is $180 for 30 days and is set up to renew automatically. Kinetic Energy is also offering a limited-time seasonal option that rewards customers with a free month when they purchase three. This is a one-time offer and will not renew after four months.

There are also options for clients that just want access the sauna, cold plunge and pro-grade recovery tools that Kinetic Energy offers, but maybe not the gym. For those customers, the business offers a range of passes ranging from a single-day pass to the recovery area — starting at $30 — to a pass for five visits for $140 and also a 10-day immersion pass for $270.
The gym is currently open 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, Mackenzie Kowalick said the gym plans to expand it hours to the weekends next month.
“We’ve always just been physical therapy.” she said. “We just kind of felt like we needed to offer another space with people to take the exercise that we want them to do and kind of expand it.”
