Organizations offer lineup of Halloween family-friendly events

With Halloween just around the corner, multiple organizations in Routt County are planning family-friendly events, from the traditional day-of Halloween Stroll on Lincoln Avenue to a new sensory-friendly party for the public on Halloween Eve at STARS Ranch.

A signature event of Main Street Steamboat Springs, the Halloween Stroll is set for 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31 in downtown Steamboat. The event features trick-or-treating at storefronts, entertaining people-watching and a children’s costume contest. Entertainers can range from fire dancers to drummers, and people who want to join the fun as a street performer or event attraction should contact Lisa@mainstreetsteamboat.com.

New this year is a Sensory Friendly Halloween Party hosted 5-7 p.m. Oct. 30 by Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports at STARS Ranch at 35465 U.S. Highway. The event will feature trunk-or-treat, games, crafts and karaoke. Admission is free, but an RSVP is requested to Miah@steamboatstars.com.



The Colorado Mountain College Residence Hall Association will host an Enchanted Castle free Halloween carnival 3-5 p.m. Oct. 26 at Hill Hall on the Steamboat campus at 1400 Bob Adams Drive. The event in the college residence hall will include prizes and trick-or-treating for kids. Costumes are encouraged, and canned food donations are appreciated.

The Steamboat Skating Club will host Fright Night Halloween on Ice for a spooky themed public skate 6-8 p.m. Oct. 26 at Howelsen Ice Arena. The event will include a food and bake sale, and the cost is $12 per person or $40 for a family of four including skate rental.



The Hayden Youth Action Council and Queer Futures are hosting a free Hayden Halloween Party for teens ages 12-18 from 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 23 with snacks, giveaways, pumpkin painting contest, optional best costume contest and screening of the movie “A Quiet Place” at the Hayden Center at 495 W. The Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat is hosting a free Spooky Carnival for Routt County high schoolers with food, games, music and prizes set for 7-10 p.m. Oct. 24 at the club at 325 Eighth St. in Steamboat.

A Foundry Halloween Run is set for 9-11 a.m. Oct. 25 starting from Soda Creek Elementary School at 220 Park Ave. in Steamboat. This race benefits the Foundry Treatment Center Steamboat Springs. The 5K course will take place on a mix of trail and road. Halloween costumes are encouraged, and leashed dogs are welcome. The $25 event will close out the Steamboat Springs Running Series season this year.

The annual Pumpkin Float at Old Town Hot Springs in Steamboat is open to the public and set for 3-6 p.m. Monday. Kids can float in the pools with their pumpkin, get creative at a pumpkin decorating station, use the water slides for free and drink hot apple cider. The cost is $10 per pumpkin, and reservations are required at Oldtownhotsprings.org/pumpkin. All proceeds benefit the Community Support Program toward making health and wellness accessible to everyone in the valley.

For the eighth year, Yampa River State Park west of Hayden will host a Hike-or-Treat event set for 1-3 p.m. Oct. 25. This year’s event will feature a candy trail, photo booth and face painting. The cost of admission is a donation of a non-perishable food or toiletry item for local food banks.

The Routt County 4-H Exchange Club is hosting Halloween Hayrides on Oct. 25 at Bar Lazy L Ranch, 26480 County Road 52E, located about 8 miles north of Steamboat off County Road 129. The family fun activities and fall fundraiser is set for 2-5 p.m. and will include pumpkin patch painting, face painting, petting zoo, horsedrawn wagon rides, and chili and cocoa. The cost is $20 per person age 3 and older. Then from 6:30-9:30 p.m. the event will turn into Haunted Hayrides for ages 8 and older. The evening event is $35 including chili and cocoa afterward. Reservations are required for all of the hayrides, which are scheduled for set times, online at Donorbox.org/events/818665.

Free Halloween Hayrides along with crafts and Scottland Highland cow petting will be offered 1-3 p.m. Oct. 31 at Glas Deffryn Ranch at 29655 Herold Way just south of Stagecoach Reservoir.

Steamboat Mountain School will host a Halloween Haunted House set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 1. All ages are welcome to experience the haunted hallways at the school located at 42605 County Road 36 northeast of Steamboat with a scare-rating system offered to accommodate for all ages. The fee is $5.
