Sarah Uberuaga, of Meridian, Idaho, was born on October 25, 1946, in Hailey, Idaho, to Paul and Janice Jones. She was raised in Hailey and graduated from Hailey High School in 1965. During her senior year, she was honored as the Homecoming Queen. Following high school, she attended junior college in California for a brief time.
Throughout her life, Sarah held numerous positions, including working as a bank teller, helping support her family and enabling her husband to complete his college education.
Sarah and her husband, Michael Uberuaga, who is also originally from Idaho, shared a remarkable sixty years of marriage. They were married on July 25, 1965. Over the years they lived in several states, including Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and California, before returning to Idaho, where they spent the last twenty-one years of Sarah’s life in Meridian.
Sarah was known for her kind and compassionate spirit. Those who knew her often described her as kind, considerate, caring, empathetic, intelligent, well-informed, and a person of strong character. She believed deeply in treating others the way you would want to be treated. As William Shakespeare once wrote, “No legacy is so rich as honesty,” and honesty was truly at the center of Sarah’s character.
Family was always the heart of Sarah’s life. She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Uberuaga; her children, Tami Benau, Jeff Uberuaga, and Greg Uberuaga; and her children’s spouses, Kenneth Benau and Carol Shin.
Sarah is also survived by five grandchildren: Eliza Uberuaga, Nate Uberuaga, Zack Uberuaga, Hannah Benau, and Shira Benau. Sarah is further survived by her brother, Francis Jones, and his wife, Cathy. She was preceded in death by her sister, Julie Jones.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Sandy Sullivan and Renee Uberuaga, and brother-in-law, Rick Uberuaga.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr. in Garden City.
A Celebration of Life Dinner honoring Sarah will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at The Club at Spurwing, located at 6800 Spurwing Way in Meridian, Idaho, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
