Sarah Ruth Woodmansee (née Hofmann) passed away peacefully at her home in Oak Creek, Colorado, on September 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, following a long battle with cancer. She was 83.
Born July 22, 1942, in Colorado Springs to Harold and Ruth Hofmann (née Greene), Sarah grew up in Farmington, New Mexico, graduating from Farmington High School in 1959. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of New Mexico in 1965, where she met her husband, Robert G. (Bob) Woodmansee PhD Professor Emeritus. They were married on August 24, 1963 and shared over six decades of partnership.
Sarah’s career reflected her lifelong commitment to social justice, education, and conservation. She worked as a social worker, Montessori teacher, and later for Legacy Land Trust (now Colorado Open Lands). After moving to Oak Creek in 2005, she became deeply engaged in her community, volunteering, writing letters to the editor, and advocating for local conservation and civic causes.
She is survived by her husband Bob, daughters Clara and Katherine (Katie) Woodmansee, and sister Jeanette Hansen. She was preceded in death by her brother, H.C. (Chris) Hofmann PhD.
A celebration of life will be held on June 13, 2026, at Stagecoach State Park. Donations in her honor may be made to Friends of Stagecoach State Park https://www.friendsofstagecoachsp.org/s-woodmansee or Sierra Club Trappers Lake https://www.sierraclub.org/colorado/trappers-lake.
