Obituary: James Michael Kenney
October 8, 1949 – August 29, 2025
James Michael Kenney, 75, of Hayden, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025 at his home.
Born in Lawton, Oklahoma on October 8, 1949 he lived in many locations as his father was an army officer. He attended Oklahoma University and Ohio State University. He moved from Columbus, Ohio to Hayden Colorado 35 years ago. He was a fixture in Hayden and Steamboat Springs for 35 years and gained many friends during those years. He worked various constructions jobs during this time.
Michael loved science fiction – he loved to read the hundreds of books he owned, camping, classic movies and cherished time with his nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents John and Josephine Kenney, and his older brother John Kenney II. He is survived by his sisters Suzanne Beals, Meg Menzel and brothers Richard Kenney, Chris Kenney, Tim Kenney, his seven nieces and seven nephews and good friends, Connie, Dave and Ana.
Michael will be remembered for his loyalty to friends, generosity toward children, eagerness to help those in need and his smile
The family request donations to either the Routt County LiftUp Food Bank in Steamboat Springs or the Northwest Colorado Health Home Health and Hospice.
There will be a celebration for Michael at the West Routt Library District in Hayden, Co. on Tuesday, Sept 30th at 1:00 celebrate Michaels life.
