Erick Knaus, born in Knoxville, TN on September 2, 1966, died May 17, 2025, born to Ronald Lynn Johnson and Hedwig (Heda) Knaus.

He served in the United States Air Force with distinction before pursuing the study of law, ultimately earning academic credentials culminating in a doctorate. As Routt County attorney, Erick was a man of integrity. He remained steadfast in his convictions and was guided by an unshakable sense of duty. He was a vigilant guardian of justice, not in pursuit of accolades, but because it was, quite simply, the right thing to do. Handles up in the dishwasher.

Erick was a discerning man and a tenacious champion of both people and principle. His relationships were built on deep respect and genuine care. He connected with others on a meaningful level, offering thoughtful advice, quiet encouragement, and steadfast support. Whether in times of joy or hardship, Erick’s presence was a calming force. His loyalty to friends and family is forever unwavering.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Knaus, and his son, Aden Knaus; his brother, Hans-Jurgen Johnson, and his sister, Kyra Donnell. His story remains untold.

He is irreplaceable.
