Owner Anna Sladek said the new Lincoln Avenue location for her business, Mountain and Company, will offer more space to feature the store’s unique lineup of adventure clothing ranging from Point6 socks to jackets from Norwegian manufacturer Amundsen.

“So not only do we have more merchandise, but we have expanded our favorite brands,” Sladek said Monday. “We are still 80% Colorado-branded, but we have been able to add a lot of small things that our customers can give for presents.”

The store moved on Aug. 1 from its old location at 345 Lincoln Ave. to a new, larger corner spot in the Alpen Glow building at 601 Lincoln Ave. The owners said they are thrilled to be in a more central location and have already seen an increase in pedestrian traffic since making the move.

Mountain and Company had been in its original location since opening as Lake and Company in November 2021. Anna and husband Stefan Sladek purchased the business in November 2023 and said they have been looking to make the move a few blocks down Lincoln Avenue for more than a year.

“We took over and rebranded and reopened,” Anna Sladek said of purchasing the business a couple of years ago. “The move has allowed us to expand what we can offer.”

Stefan Sladek said the new location offers about 80% more space, which the couple has filled with local clothing brands such as Point6, Town Hall and Chill Angel, along with a host of Colorado brands including Strafe from Aspen, Voormi from Pagosa Springs as well as Belong Designs and Wise River from Denver. There are sunglasses from Colorado-based Optic Nerve Eyewear, ski boots from Apex and overalls from Allover, both based in Golden.

While the store takes pride in its Colorado offerings, Mountain and Company also has a sprinkle of international choices including Amundsen and Trentree and Duer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Anna Sladek said she wants Mountain and Company to be the local’s home base for outdoor gear in Steamboat, and the store is dedicated to promoting companies that have environmentally friendly practices and emphasizing sustainability whenever possible.

Owners of Mountain and Company have filled their new location with a wide selection of men’s, women’s and children’s active clothing lines designed to complement the mountain lifestyle in Steamboat Springs. The company moved to 601 Lincoln Ave. in August.

In addition to a full line of men’s and women’s clothing, Mountain and Company also has a large selection of children’s clothing from Keep the Littles Wild and said the new space has allowed the store to further expand it’s children’s lines. Customers will also find a large assortment of specialty items including chocolate bars from Raaka, puzzles, purses, stickers and journals.

“It’s way more wide open,” Stefan Sladek said. “We want to offer functional clothing that people will wear all day, every day … it’s not black tie, but we also want our customers to be able to wear it out to dinner.”

The couple said they want to give back to the community and are thrilled to have the strong local support that they have had over the past few years. The store is open 9 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.
