A local woman was arrested at around 2 p.m. Tuesday for the alleged theft of necklaces from the Jewelry and Fossil Shop on Lincoln Avenue in downtown Steamboat Springs.

According to the arrest affidavit, the necklaces are valued between $1,300 and $1,500.

Cristin Radder, 50, of Steamboat, is charged with theft, a Class 6 felony, as well as third-degree burglary, a Class 2 misdemeanor.

The affidavit states that Jewelry and Fossil Shop owner Bashar Alnajdawi reported that a female “had come into the store and had opened a jewelry case and taken a gold, diamond and ruby necklace.” When a Steamboat police officer arrived on scene, the officer noted a necklace was “clearly missing” from the display case where it had been located, according to the affidavit.

Alnajdawi described the female as “blonde, wearing short jean shorts and a blue/gray T-shirt” in the affidavit. Video footage from a store surveillance camera observed by the responding officer matched Alnajdawi’s description, with the officer adding that the female in question was wearing a shirt with the word “Marmot.”

The store owner also told the officer that the woman reached across the wood and glass display case to then slide the door open and reach in and grab the necklaces. The surveillance footage shows the woman performing a similar action and dropping the white display object after sliding the door open, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, the officer determined that the female in the footage was possibly Cristin Radder, and he and a detective drove to Radder’s residence. Upon arriving at her house, the officer “immediately observed” that Radder wore blue jean shorts and a T-shirt imprinted with the word “Marmot,” which matched both Alnajdawi’s description and the officer’s observation of the video footage, the affidavit reads.

According to the affidavit, when the officer then asked Radder if she had been at the Jewelry and Fossil Shop earlier that day, she confirmed that she had been there. When asked if she had knowledge about a necklace from the store, the affidavit reports that Radder replied, “I do.”

Radder then said, “I have (the necklace)” and “I took it,” after further questions from the officer, the affidavit states. When asked if she took the jewelry without purchasing it, she replied, “Without paying for it,” according to the affidavit.

After this conversation, Radder agreed to let the officers into her residence where she showed the officers one gold and one ruby necklace, the affidavit states.

Radder was released from the Routt County Jail near midnight Tuesday after posting a $1,500 bond.

Radder’s next court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 5.
