Local brewery and trail runner team up to create noncompetitive running series

Mountain Tap Brewery and David Norris, a local professional trail runner, have partnered to launch a new noncompetitive running series this spring and summer called Joggers and Lagers.
The series is meant for social fun and will start and finish at Mountain Tap Brewery on Yampa St. with a free beer or soda offered upon completion of the race.
Norris approached Mountain Tap earlier this year when he noticed there was a lack of casual running groups in town, despite Steamboat being home to an active running community with a successful competitive racing series.
Norris has seen other towns and cities host very successful social runs, particularly in Anchorage, Alaska and Salt Lake City. He is equally as passionate for trail running as he is with Nordic skiing — for which he is a coach at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club — and has the desire to share that passion with the community.
For each run, Norris will offer two routes consisting of an easier trek and a more challenging run. His goal is to attract as many non-competitive runners, as well as competitive athletes, as he can.
On each run day, participants will check in at Mountain Tap at 6 p.m. to receive the trail route via a QR code. Participants will also receive a ticket upon check-in that can be redeemed for a beverage following the race.
The series begins Wednesday and will conclude with an end of the season party on Sept. 18. Participants will earn a prize drawing ticket for each run they complete.
The series schedule is as follows:
May — 8th and 22nd
June — 5th and 19th
July — 17th and 31st
August — 7th and 21st
September — 4th and 18th
