Lincoln Avenue will shut down from around 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 for the annual Downtown Halloween Stroll, according to a Wednesday news release.

Eastbound traffic on U.S. Highway 40 will be rerouted to Yampa Street and westbound traffic to Oak Street between 5th and 11th streets. The 5th Street Bridge will remain open for northbound vehicles, and those heading to Howelsen Hill or the Ice Arena can access those sites via Yampa Street.

Vendors can enter Lincoln Avenue from 7th Street between 3 and 4:45 p.m. After that, the street will close to all vehicles, including event participants. Parking downtown will be limited.

No‑parking restrictions will be in place along Lincoln Avenue, Yampa Street, Oak Street and nearby side streets, with violators subject to towing. Participants setting up downtown are asked to contact Main Street Steamboat in advance to receive placement and access instructions.

Steamboat Springs Transit will maintain service using temporary stops on Yampa and Oak streets, with additional buses available before and after the event.

Local businesses, city crews and volunteers are preparing for heavy crowds. A meeting spot for separated families will be located at 7th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Families are encouraged to arrive early, use flashlights or reflective gear after dusk.
