Today, many citizens are worried, fearful and angry about the state of our democracy. It seems that one of the best ways to relieve this stress and state of mind is action: phone banking to other states, writing your representatives and senators, urging citizens to vote and seeking out others to join the protests to meet the goal of 12 million active protesters.

This brings to mind the anti-war protests of 1969 where two protests on Oct 15 and Nov 15 called the “Moratorium for Peace” brought together about 2 million people all over the country. Recently, records of the presidential administration at the time were released, revealing that the president was on the verge of launching an all out war operation on North Vietnam that included nuclear weapons option.

Those protests influenced him to stop this terrible plan that might have plunged the world into a nuclear holocaust. We never knew at the time that these two protests had such an impact.

We will not know in the moment, what the previous protests this year and our protest on Oct 18 have accomplished, but we must continue. History and your actions will speak for themselves.
