The next opportunity for local drivers to test drive a variety of electric vehicles is set for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 20 at the parking lot near the EV charging stations at Howelsen Hill Rodeo Grounds in Steamboat Springs.

The educational day will begin with a free EV 101 Workshop 9-10 a.m. in the Howelsen Ice Arena meeting room. The workshop will explore the differences between fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, how EVs operate and save drivers money, and tax rebates and incentives available to make EVs more affordable.

The Electric Vehicle Ride and Drive interactive community event is sponsored by the city of Steamboat Springs, nonprofit Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, Clean Energy Economy for the Region and Mountain Bus EV.

Drivers wanting to test drive vehicles during a 15-minute slot should sign up in advance online through YVSC.org/events. Vehicles available for test drives will include a Hyundai Ioniq 5, Subaru Solterra, Tesla model 3, Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid and Chevy Blazer, Bolt and Silverado.

Mountain Bus EV, based in Colorado, will show a fully converted 16-person Galva shuttle that also has an ADA conversion. Fleet operators, lodging companies and resort partners are encouraged to come see the electric shuttle.
