Steamboat’s First Friday Artwalk this month also marks the beginning of All Arts Week, a 10-day celebration of Northwest Colorado’s creativity. FFAW, scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Aug. 1, offers art enthusiasts the opportunity to guide themselves through the local galleries and studios that form the framework of the Yampa Valley arts scene.
All Arts Week, which also begins Friday and runs through Aug. 10, will showcase the diversity of the region’s arts scene through visual exhibits, performances, workshops and community events.
The Alley Gallery and Art Studios
The Alley Gallery and Art Studios, at 703 Lincoln Ave., will feature work by resident artists Jill Bergman and Ann Feldman for August’s FFAW. Bergman will be presenting a large black-and-white linocut print of Brown’s Park. The desert cloudscape linocut was inspired by a photograph and created during Art in the Park by a driver rolling over a carved block with a steamroller.

Not to be outdone, Feldman has taken on the challenge of painting the same cloud in oil, offering a playful and collaborative juxtaposition to Bergman’s work.

The gallery also recently launched a new website, AlleyGallerySteamboat.com, where visitors can explore the story of the studio’s artists and their works.
Steamboat Creates at the Depot Art Center
The Depot Art Center, at 1001 13th St., will host two exhibitions for August, both of which feature community outreach elements.
“The Riverwalk Collective is proud to present its August exhibition showcasing a vibrant range of work from oil painting and photo collage to mixed media and woodworking,” said Robin Miller of Steamboat Creates in a press release.
One of those shows is “Craft and Character,” which highlights the work of local woodworker Dave Winters. A Northwest Colorado resident for five decades, Winters is known for sculptural pieces inspired by nature. This month’s show honors the creation of his 4,000th cutting board with a limited-edition “4K Series” crafted from black walnut and curly maple and featuring mother-of-pearl and turquoise details.
“A love and respect for nature permeates my work to this day,” Winters said. “Wood starts as a living thing and is essentially killed when it’s harvested. I like to think my work brings it back to life — and that it will last for many generations.”

Winters will also open his private studio for a public tour from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 30. Those interested can register through Steamboat Creates.
“Get Out of Town” will feature works by Misty Brever, Andrea Abrahamson and Jane Sindell. The group’s collective exhibition explores the landscapes of South Routt County through oils, acrylics, pastels, photography and mixed compositions. Additionally, a plein air pastel class will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 9 at Stagecoach Reservoir’s Arrowhead Pavilion.

“This is an opportunity to step away from the bustle of town and immerse yourself in the quiet resilience, natural beauty and vibrant creativity of South Routt County,” said Miller in the news release.

Live music from South Routt musicians, including vocalist Belinda Rossi, will accompany Friday’s opening reception at The Depot Art Center.

Schoonover Gallery
The Schoonover Gallery, 929 Lincoln Ave., will feature Colorado artist Josh Brown during August’s artwalk. Known for his depictions of animals, Brown’s style, which Schoonover describes as bold and minimalist, uses brushwork and palette knife techniques to provide personality and movement to his pieces with the overall goal of inspiring joy and curiosity in the viewer. “The work of Josh Brown is designed to inspire us to live curiously in goodwill and humor, in art and in life,” Schoonover said.
Brown’s pieces will be on view alongside the gallery’s other contemporary and Western art.

Pine Moon Fine Art
Pine Moon Fine Art, at 117 9th St., is presenting “Jennifer Baker: New Works in Glass, Landscapes and Florals” throughout August. Baker’s kiln-formed glass pieces capture the natural beauty of the Yampa Valley with layers of vibrant florals and serene forest scenes.

“Since I was a young girl, I dreamed of living in a place where I could experience true nature,” Baker said. “When I am building my work, I think of the beauty that surrounds me, and I create places from parts of memory or places I would like to be or go to.”
Her pieces will be displayed alongside functional ceramics from gallery artist Julie Anderson.

Rumor Designs
Rumor Designs, at 912 Lincoln Ave., is highlighting multimedia artist Paula Jo Jaconetta, whose latest works use layered photography to explore themes of personal journeys and transformations through color, texture and emotion.
“I try to make sense of my journey through imagery,” Jaconetta said. “Change is inevitable — we need to move with it.”
Her art serves as a visual diary, reflecting her own personal experiences and the collective nature of growth.
Celebrating All Arts Week
First Friday Artwalk also marks the start of All Arts Week, which runs Aug. 1–10 and features a wide range of performances, exhibitions and workshops throughout the Yampa Valley. The festival supports local artists and cultural organizations while offering immersive experiences for residents and visitors.
