Emerald owner Ani Tikku confirmed Tuesday that the downtown coffee shop has closed its doors after three-plus years of operation in Steamboat Springs.

“We enjoyed the shop and all the good people we met, but it was time to move on for personal reasons,” Tikku said in an email to the newspaper.

Tikku and her husband, Walter Leskiff, opened Emerald at 700 Yampa St., Unit A105, in July 2022. The business offered organic coffee, tea and smoothies, as well as a food menu.

The coffee shop was named for Emerald Mountain, located just across the Yampa River, and the owners wanted to create a warm, welcoming place for people to sit for a meal and spend time with friends or family. The couple purchased the space in 2016 with the idea of opening their own business.

Tikku said the space has been leased to a tenant and is undergoing renovation before a new business opens.
