Doctor looking forward to serving at Games
Steamboat Springs — Dr. Bryan Bomberg of Steamboat Orthopedic Associates, P.C. is one of Steamboat’s many ties to the 2002 Olympics.
In October, Bomberg was selected to attend the Games as a member of the medical staff for the U.S. team.
Bomberg, who has lived in Steamboat since 1993, has practiced sports medicine for 14 years. The examining room at Steamboat Orthopedic Associates is decorated with autographed pictures of athletes he has treated.
Bomberg said he was chosen because of his work at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and as the head physician for the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team. He has been involved with the team since 1994, and his dedication has taken him around the world, including to Finland for the world championships last year.
While in Salt Lake City, Bomberg said he will be primarily responsible for the U.S. jumping and Nordic combined teams, attending training and competitions.
Bomberg said attending the Olympics will be among the highlights of his career.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said.
Bomberg said he values the opportunity to assist the Olympians with their medical needs. Bomberg will be part of the medical staff on a volunteer basis and emphasizes the importance of “giving back” to others.
Bomberg said he could not serve on the medical staff for the Olympics without the support of his family.
He is looking forward to the “opportunity to share the experience with athletes I’ve known and cared for over the years” and seeing them accomplish their dreams in Salt Lake City.
