Cool, wet start to October to be followed by warmer weather this week

Steamboat Springs saw cool, cloudy conditions on Sunday afternoon, with temperatures holding in the low to mid-50s, according to local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth’s twice-weekly report.

Brief periods of “pea-sized hail” and upper-mountain snowfall accompanied Saturday’s storm, wrote Weissbluth, which also brought up to four-tenths of an inch of rain and likely thinned the vibrant fall foliage along the Pioneer Trail.

Temperatures will climb this week, reaching near 60 degrees on Monday as lingering storm energy passes, with a slight chance of stray showers, he wrote. Skies will gradually clear Tuesday, and temperatures will rise to about 70 degrees by Wednesday and the low 70s by Thursday.

“Unsettled weather” may return by Friday or into the weekend, Weissbluth added, with snowfall at high elevations expected.
