Yampa River flows fell below 700 cubic feet per second on June 18, allowing licensed operators to open their doors for the tubing season.

Commercial tubing operators include Backdoor Sports (841 Yampa St.), Bucking Rainbow (1103 Lincoln Ave.) and One Stop Ski and Cycle (402 Lincoln Ave.), according to the city’s website.

Commercial tubing is permitted from Fifth Street to the James Brown Soul Center of the Universe Bridge at Shield Drive. Private tubing is recommended by the city from Fetcher Park to the James Brown Bridge.

It is recommended that all tubers wear appropriate gear such as life vests and river shoes. Flip-flops will likely fall off feet, and proper river etiquette always should be exercised.

Recreators are not allowed to bring disposable containers such as cans, plastic bottles, glass or Styrofoam coolers on the river. The city encourages users to bring a reusable container that should be attached to the tube.

The commercial tubing season is getting underway roughly one week ahead of last year’s opening.
