The Yampa Valley Climate Crew and project partners are needing volunteers to help with four restoration work days in early August.
On Aug. 9-10, the Climate Crew and the U.S. Forest Service will restore wet meadows in the California Park area in northern Routt County using Zeedyk rock structures to help restore the ecosystems that are vital for watershed health and wildlife such as greater sandhill cranes and elk.
The California Park work days are scheduled for 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. with overnight camping encouraged for people who plan to help both days.
On Aug. 14, volunteers can help 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in southern Routt County for a project to restore wet meadows with nonprofit Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust. These ecosystems are vital for drought resilience, carbon sequestration and wildlife habitat. Erosion has disconnected these wet meadows from the floodplain, resulting in decreased water retention and loss of wetland vegetation.
On Aug. 15, restoration work will take place 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in Hayden.
