City to host Arbor Day celebration at West Lincoln Park
The City of Steamboat Springs is partnering with local forestry and sustainability organizations to host an Arbor Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19 at West Lincoln Park.
While Arbor Day is traditionally observed on the last Friday in April, Colorado communities often celebrate Arbor Day in the fall when planting conditions are most favorable.
“Steamboat Springs is proud to be recognized as a Tree City USA community,” said Matti Hill, arborist in Parks & Recreation, in a statement. “This event gives us the chance to celebrate our urban forest, share resources, and come together to plant trees that will benefit generations to come.”
Arbor Day celebration highlights will include an official Arbor Day proclamation, a ceremonial tree planting in West Lincoln Park, urban forestry resources and education from community partners, interactive demonstrations such as tree climbing and bucket truck activities and tree plantings around the West Lincoln Playground.
